The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

Coronavirus Update

On Wednesday, we held our latest COVID-19 Impact Information Sharing session, where we were joined by a BEIS official. Among issues raised on the call were concerns around the business rates relief, the difficulties sectors are having accessing Government loans, and questions arising from Government schemes for employees and the self-employed. Credos also updated members on the pilot of its regular advertising industry stakeholder survey, the first run of which has just been completed and which will continue throughout the crisis. We will be holding another session like this on Wednesday – if you would like to join please email Ed Butler.

To help provide some clarification wherever we can, we have pulled out a page on our website here that contains Covid-19 advice for the UK advertising industry from Government specifically. It includes summaries and links to the Government schemes that are available and we urge all companies to take a look at this and check the links on the page to see where they are eligible for Government support. Similarly we have pulled together another page specifically for the latest news surrounding the virus outbreak from industry as well as sentiment pieces on the impact that it may have on the market. Check this page out here. These are both being updated on a regular basis so please do keep checking back and get in contact with us if you have any questions on either of these.

We have also been busy talking to trade media this week about the current goings-on, with our Chief Executive Stephen Woodford taking part in a podcast by Campaign, alongside Siobhan Kenny of Radiocentre, to give an update on our conversations with Government and what support is needed, and our President Keith Weed writing for Marketing Week about the importance of trust in advertising, particularly during the coronavirus outbreak. We also launched a weekly tracker survey with brands, agencies, media owners and production companies to learn sentiment, outlook and actions from industry regarding Covid-19, which we will then feed back to Government. This was covered by Mediatel here.

A new Covid-19 section also went live on our Ad Pays 8 hub this week to showcase all the brilliant work that our industry is doing to help the UK get through the pandemic. Read more about this here and check out one of the case studies below.

Despite the situation we are currently in, we have never seen a greater push from Adland doing brilliant creative and entrepreneurial work in response to COVID-19.
