Following on from last week’s fringe event at the Labour Conference, this week it was the turn of the Conservative Party. As such, on Monday we headed up to Manchester, where the Conservative Party were holding their annual conference, and held our second fringe event in partnership with the Institute for Government on ‘The database state, data-driven companies: where next for personal data?’.
The event featured a wide-ranging panel discussion on public and private sector data use, followed by some engaging questions from the audience in a packed-out room. You can read a full write-up of the event on our website here.
In other public affairs news, our very own Senior Public Affairs Manager David Henderson gave evidence to the Culture, Tourism, Europe and External Affairs Committee in Holyrood yesterday morning regarding potential restrictions proposed in the UEFA European Championship (Scotland) Bill. You can also see coverage on the BBC here.
To help businesses be as prepared as possible for October 31, the Government recently announced the creation of the Brexit Business Readiness Fund, with funding available to business organisations and trade associations to support the members and businesses they represent to prepare for Brexit. We applied for the funding and are currently running an industry-wide advertorial campaign to help businesses understand the many, complex issues involved in Brexit in the process save time and money by providing free, practical advice. Key areas where Brexit will have widespread implications for advertising include data, trade and talent and these are the focus of the current campaign.
The first outlets we are working with to share information have published this week, including Campaign, The Drum, and Mediatel Newsline.
We are excited to announce that the next report in our Advertising Pays series – Ad Pays 8 – will launch at LEAD on 30 January in Westminster during a special presentation from Director of Credos Karen Fraser MBE.
Ad Pays 8 will, for the first time, focus on UK Advertising’s Social Contribution. From campaigns supported by donated inventory, via charity initiatives like Sprintathon, to broadcaster support for the Daily Mile to help get children more active, the report will consider the industry’s pro-social role and what more might be done in the years ahead.
During LEAD we will hear from companies whose case studies have featured in the report, and include a lively discussion around the issues raised during the research. You can book your ticket to LEAD here.
You’ve made it this far – why not treat yourself and watch our ad of the week?
