The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

PUTTING ADVERTISING AT THE HEART OF RECOVERY

On Wednesday afternoon the Chancellor announced a multitude of measures to kick-start economic recovery, many of which focused on job creation, retention and employability, such as the Kickstart Scheme, the Re-employment Bonus and a temporary VAT cut. In response to this, we issued a statement:

“We support the measures announced today by the Chancellor to kick start the recovery from COVID-19. Mr Sunak clearly sees that consumers have the power to drive our country’s economic revival through their spending, and advertising and marketing lies at the very heart of informing people about the products and services available to them as businesses return to normality, with spend on advertising delivering £6 for GDP for every £1 invested”. You can read the statement in full over on our website here.

Our Chief Executive, Stephen Woodford, also wrote an opinion piece – Putting Advertising  at the Heart of Recovery – for The Drum here expanding on his thoughts about the latest announcement.

In other Government news, we are proud to be supporting the new Recovery Advice for Business Scheme, which is hosted by Enterprise Nation in partnership with the   Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. The scheme will give small firms access to free, one-to-one advice with an expert adviser to help them through the Coronavirus pandemic and prepare for long-term recovery. We are currently recruiting for expert volunteers, so if you would like to join the effort, please do! For more information on the scheme and how to take part click here.

OUR PRESIDENT’S RECEPTION

Usually at this time of year we host our President’s Reception to say a huge thank you to our members for their ongoing support. This year is a little different, but that won’t stop us from gathering (albeit virtually), reflecting and putting our minds together on what’s next for the industry we all love.

So next week, our President, Keith Weed, our Chair, Philippa Brown and our Chief Executive, Stephen Woodford, are hosting a very special online event for our members. If you are a member and would like to attend then please RSVP to events@adassoc.org.uk.

UK ADVERTISING SUMMER SHOWCASE

This week was a very busy one for the UK Advertising Export Group (UKAEG). From Monday-Wednesday we hosted nine webinars for 450 attendees from 12 different countries, which you can now watch on our YouTube channel here. We were also a partner at the AdForum PHNX Tribute – a one day virtual festival of creativity. AA President Keith Weed and UKAEG Chair Janet Hull spoke on the main stage, while our members gave talks in the breakout sessions. The event attracted around 700 attendees from all over the world. Recordings will be available shortly on our YouTube channel.

It doesn’t stop there for UKAEG. Over the next fortnight we will be running our virtual trade mission to China including hosting our own stage at the Shanghai International Advertising Festival (SHIAF). If you would like to find out more about joining UKAEG contact Aisling Conlon on aisling.conlon@adassoc.org.uk.

AD PAYS 8 – THE CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE

As we begin to ease out of lockdown we are seeing a shift in the work produced by our industry which is reflective of this. The Covid-19 category on our Ad Pays 8 hub, which is a showcase for ads that have had a positive contribution to society, shows the journey we’ve all been on, up to present time, through creativity. This week, check out our member Global’s OOH campaign supporting London’s art and cultural venues here.
