Today brings the news that our Chairman James Murphy is extending his tenure for an additional one year term, through to May 2019, as we continue our campaign for growth in the advertising industry beyond Brexit. Focusing on guiding the Association’s work to ensure advertising is at the heart of the Government’s Industrial Strategy in two key areas; driving growth across the UK through increased SME (Small and medium-sized enterprises) advertising and raising the UK’s international profile as a world-class hub for advertisers.
With Brexit at the top of the agenda, the Advertising Association has been running a campaign to ensure advertising’s voice is recognised as an industry contributing £120bn to the nation’s economy and exporting £4.3bn worth of services globally. Our recent Advertising Pays 6 report, in partnership with LinkedIn, and the subsequent A Great Advert for Britain campaign has highlighted the vital role that EU nationals and colleagues from other international territories contribute to the UK’s advertising industry. As founder and CEO of adam&eveDDB, Murphy has been a vocal proponent in the campaign to help the advertising industry get the very best possible outcome from Brexit negotiations.
Andy Duncan, President of the Advertising Association, said: “We are delighted James has agreed to extend his time as Chairman of the Advertising Association. This is a crucial period for our sector. It is vital for us all that we secure the best result for advertising and ensure the UK remains a world-class hub for talent. We also need to take full advantage of the Government’s Industrial Strategy to drive growth right across the UK. With James as Chairman, and with the support of the rest of the Board and our members, I am confident we have the right team in place to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
James Murphy, Group CEO of adam&eveDDB and Chairman of the Advertising Association said: “It’s an honour to have been invited by the Board of the Advertising Association to extend my time as Chairman. Our industry is well-positioned to have an exciting future, both as the preeminent global hub for advertising and as a force for economic growth across the UK. But it is vital we get the best possible deal for our industry from negotiations with the EU. As such, we are all committed to ensuring our voice continues to be heard during this critical period.”
Widely respected across the industry, James Murphy co-founded adam&eve in 2008, which in 2012 merged with DDB to become adam&eveDDB. After beginning his career at Ogilvy and Mather, James joined RKCR where he became MD in 2003 and CEO in 2004. He was elected Chairman of the Advertising Association in 2015.
