The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

JOIN THE BEST OF THE BEST AT CANNES LIONS

On Wednesday, we opened admissions for a special UK trade mission to this year’s Cannes Lions, run by the UK Advertising Exports Group (UKAEG) in partnership with the Department of International Trade (DIT).

This trade mission will be backed by a campaign supported by a coalition of industry partners including the APA, Clear Channel, Channel 4, Framestore, M&C Saatchi, Pinterest, and PwC. The many benefits of joining the trade mission include networking events, opportunities to showcase work and speak at roundtables, the chance to meet and secure new business opportunities with international markets, and much, much more.

So, we invite you to come and join the best of the best at Cannes Lions this summer and apply to join us by May 12!

Whether you are scaling quickly or just beginning to test the waters for international growth, Cannes Lions is an excellent platform for expanding your network and gaining new clients. We are so excited to be heading back to sunny Cannes this summer and to meet up with our international colleagues. We have already planned a number of events on the ground which you can find in our events section.

You can read the full announcement here, and find the application form here. The news was also covered in titles such as Campaign, The Media Leader, New Digital Age,  Little Black Book and Politics Home.

AND WE RISE UP

We’re super happy that our inclusion initiative, All In, will be featured at Creative Equals’ RISE 2022 event.

RISE 2022 is making its return on May 12th at Royal Horticultural Hall, London SW1, for upcoming and existing marketing and creative leaders. This is set to be a great event for all voices to influence culture, creativity, campaigns, and communities.

Hopefully we’ll see you there. You can learn more and register for the event here. And don’t forget! AA members get a 10% discount with the code ‘FRIENDS’.

ABOVE AND BEYOND

Our CEO, Stephen Woodford, will be joining Matt Brittin (President, EMEA, Google) and Debbie Klein (Group Chief Marketing, Corporate Affairs and People Officer, Sky) at the Media and Telecoms 2022 & Beyond Conference on May 12. Their session, From COP26 to COP27, comes at a time when the UK’s preparations for COP27 are underway. Join us for some inspiring insights on issues such as how the objective of tackling the climate crisis is becoming integrated in the content produced by media companies.

Our Chair & PHD’s Worldwide CEO, Philippa Brown, will also be at the conference! She will be speaking in the session Advertising Mega-Trends, alongside David Abraham (Group CEO, Wonderhood Studios), Dominic Carter (EVP, Publisher, The Sun, News UK) and Phil Smith (Director General, ISBA). Do you want to know whether a squeeze on household consumption will slow down the advertising market and how online advertising will be affected by legislative changes ahead? Then make sure to not miss the session!

CHANNEL 4’S DIVERSITY IN ADVERTISING AWARD

If you’ve made it to this point, you will probably be thinking that we are everywhere. And well, that’s kind of true!

Our very own Commercial Director & Inclusion Lead, Sharon Lloyd Barnes, was on the jury for Channel 4’s latest Diversity in Advertising Award. A huge congratulations goes to the winners – TENA and AMV BBDO – and all involved!

The award offers brands and agencies the opportunity to win over £1million of free advertising for the best creative response to Channel 4’s diversity brief. This year’s brief asked brands to create a campaign featuring a specific age group at its heart, representing people of that group in a modern, authentic, and non-stereotyped way. It was great to see that the brief aligns with Action 6 of our All In Action Plan: to improve the experience & representation of Older Talent.

The winning campaign features a mother with her daughter and some of the realities of menopause. You can learn more about the winners & the award here.

LEARNING TO TRACE OUR EVENTS

Yesterday, the incredible team at TRACE visited our office to give us some insights into their event carbon calculator platform.

Our whole team gathered to learn more about the tool, which is designed to simplify carbon and waste reporting for busy event teams. And we do appreciate it, considering all the events that we have coming up!

If you want to learn more about the tool, head here.
