The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

TORY PARTY CONFERENCE

As part of our conferences tour, team AA set off to Birmingham to the Conservative Party Conference this week, fresh from the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool.

At this year’s conference, we hosted an Industry Leaders’ Reception to champion our industry’s credentials to support economic growth.

The reception was attended by a host of senior political, industry, and media people, all eager to hear how UK creativity powers Britain’s global ambitions and supports growth all around the world.

Trade Minister Conor Burns MP told industry bosses that the talent, energy and creativity of our sectors are vital to the UK’s success overseas, at an event we co-hosted with Conservatives In Communications and the Digital Tories.

Our Public Affairs Director Sue Eustace took to the stage to reinforce advertising’s unique relationship with the Department for International Trade (DIT) and how our industry builds global brands – generating an impressive £11.7bn per year in exports of UK advertising services.

GOVERNMENT UPDATE ON RUSSIAN SANCTIONS

The UK Government has announced another wave of sanctions on specific exports of goods and services to Russia, in response to Putin’s illegal annexation of four Ukrainian regions. The sanctions will add to the economic pressures on Russia by disrupting supply chains and limiting Russia’s capacity to import goods and services.

The latest sanctions include restrictions on UK exports of advertising services to Russia.

Our CEO, Stephen Woodford said:

“UK advertising and marketing businesses still providing services to Russia should urgently take note of the UK government’s announcement. As the industry’s trade body, we fully support these measures, as well as the decision of many companies who have already ceased trading with Russia.”

The news was widely covered in our industry trade press including: Campaign, The Drum and The Media Leader.
