The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

AA HEADS OVER TO VCCP

We headed to the VCCP offices yesterday morning for a behind-the-scenes presentation on what makes a creative agency tick.

VCCP, now the UK’s number one creative agency, is famous for its long-running campaigns for O2 and the Meerkats from Compare the Market. The agency offers a series of services including advertising, brand and employee engagement, branding and design, content and socials, gaming, PR and much more. They have also recently joined the AA’s Front Foot network.

We were hosted by Julian Douglas, Vice Chairman of VCCP and this was a great opportunity to understand more about what makes an agency successful.

A big thank you to VCCP for being such excellent hosts!

LATEST AD NET ZERO NEWS

It’s been a busy week for Ad Net Zero as we continue to provide resources to adland on how they can get their house in order.

Firstly, Ad Net Zero USA has welcomed a number of new supporters since its launch in February – you can read all about them here!

This week, IAB Tech Lab published its Sustainability Playbook, to assist professionals in the digital advertising industry to proactively reduce the carbon emissions of their programmatic supply chains.

The playbook also acknowledges a growing industry consensus around the need to have a singular, holistic, Greenhouse Gas Protocols informed standard for measuring carbon activities. It references the work by Ad Net Zero, WFA and GARM to design this standard. Ad Net Zero is delighted to see this development!

You can find the playbook here.

In other news, our Communications Director, Matt Bourn, was a part of the CIPR ESG Panel Webinar held yesterday afternoon, alongside speakers from the ASA, CIPR and Man Bites Dog. The webinar focused on what greenwashing is and how it can be avoided.

Lastly, we held our ANZ x BusinessGreen Showcase Session yesterday, speaking all about the most important industrial revolution in human history.

BusinessGreen editor, James Murray, took part in a conversation with Matt Bourn about the emerging net zero economy. The session also considered the role of the advertising industry in helping to bring sustainable products, services and behaviours to the fore to accelerate the transition. It gave the attendees a chance to learn more about BusinessGreen’s Net Zero Festival – an inspiring two-day event to take place this October.

LET’S DEBATE

On Wednesday evening we were in Parliament to celebrate the work of The Debating Group in bringing together Parliamentarians and people from across our industry to discuss the key issues affecting our sector. We heard speeches from Tulip Siddiq MP, Steven Shepperson-Smith (President, CIPR), and our CEO Stephen Woodford on the importance of the Group in the face of constant change across our sector.

Many thanks to Jim and Doreen for organising a great event.

If you’re interested in seeing the Debating Group in action, our next debate will be held on July 11 in the House of Commons from 5:15pm to 6:45pm.

Sponsored by the Alliance of Independent Agencies, the debate is titled “Late payments by large companies to small businesses should be subject to legislation” and will be chaired by Rt Hon Lord McNally of Blackpool.
