The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

CANNES LIONS COUNTDOWN IS ON

We’re going to Cannes Lions next week!

The UK advertising industry will be delivering a unique showcase at Cannes Lions this year, with over 50 companies participating in two UK Advertising Exports Group and Department of Business and Trade (DBT) trade missions.

The showcase will include 34 inspiring speakers at the palais, 30 talks looking at the future of the creative economy beyond the Palais, 33 judges including 4 jury chairs and 12 Young Lions representing the UK.

To celebrate UK creativity, UKAEG has organised several events, including the GREAT global dinner which will feature a special appearance by TikTok creator Rob Mayhew. As a teaser of the campaign, Rob has released his TikTok – specifically to promote UK advertising at Cannes.

The TikTok post can be viewed here, and the LinkedIn post can be viewed here.

While in Cannes, we’re excited to be taking our climate action programme, Ad Net Zero, to the Palais where we will be hosting a week-long agenda encouraging delegates to join our efforts to help tackle the climate emergency.

We’ll be running a special Ad Net Zero Zone in the ACT Responsible Hall featuring case studies and insights provided by a wide range of supporter companies from around the world, as well as two sessions on the Palais stage.

Don’t forget to join us for the “Open House for Good” on Wednesday 21 June between 2-4pm where the hall will be open to those who don’t have passes. And at 3pm there’ll be the opportunity to hear our Ad Net Zero Chair, Sebastian Munden, interviewed by one of the UK Young Lions.

For the full programme, head to our dedicated Lions hub here. See you there!

A RECORD SPRINTATHON

On Wednesday, we headed to Battersea Park for The Marketing Society’s annual Sprintathon to help raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.

Congratulations to our runners – Stephen, Chris, Sarah, Cat and Will – for their efforts running in the 30-degree heat!

We’re proud to reveal that Sprintathon beat its own record to do the marathon in under two hours and was the 8th fastest marathon ever!

AWARDS FOR AWARDS

We were delighted to be recognised by the AOP Digital Publishing Awards this week, where our Campaign Ad Net Zero Awards won Best Publisher-led Social Good Initiative.

Our sustainability awards were first set up in partnership with Haymarket last year and we’re excited that we’re accepting entries for our second year.

Here’s what the judges had to say: “These new awards demonstrated industry leadership on an incredibly urgent issue – built on a great partnership, the team delivered a credible response to the challenge for the advertising sector to get to net zero, and also delivered a successful and profitable event.”

INFLUENCER MARKETING ON THE FRONT FOOT

On Tuesday we held the latest Front Foot Insight session bringing together industry bodies and Front Foot members to discuss the recent developments in influencer marketing.

Hosted by our Public Affairs Director, Sue Eustace, the session featured Scott Guthrie, IMTB (Influencer Marketing Trade Body); Rob Newman, ISBA; Charlotte Stavrou, SevenSix Agency and Dr Luke Evans MP, who has led the campaign on body image in Parliament.

The session follows the news this week that ISBA and IMTB have joined forces to relaunch the Influencer Marketing Code of Conduct.

Find out all about that here!

A NEW CREATIVE VISION

Advertising is a vital element of our creative sector and we were excited to see DCMS and the Creative Industries Council publish their ‘sector vision’ for the Creative Industries this week. It recognises the importance of the creative industries to the UK’s economic growth, and sets out the Government’s ambitions for the sector to grow by £50bn and support a million more jobs by 2030.
