The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

AA LAUNCHES AI TASKFORCE🚀

Our AI taskforce launched this week with the aim to build an industry-wide coordinated approach to policy, ethical safeguards, and guidelines of AI in advertising.

Co-chaired by two of our members represented by Google’s Advertising Industry Relations Manager, EMEA, Yves Schwarzbart and VCCP’s Managing Partner and Head of Social Innovation, Alex Dalman, the new taskforce will bring together senior representatives from across our membership.

Our new taskforce will galvanise the industry by ensuring the UK is the best place to develop and champion AI in advertising and marketing. By enhancing our industry’s understanding of AI, we can help position the UK as a world-leading hub and seek to increase the standard and clarity of industry policy on AI ethics and usage.

And it’s certainly created a buzz in the media world too – you can read more about the launch via Campaign, The Drum, MediaShotz and many more!

UPSKILL WITH THE DMA

Our member, the DMA, has been doing great work with their campaign to reduce skills gaps and talent shortages across the UK – and we’re here to remind you that organisations can now benefit from funding from the Department for Education (DfE) to upskill your employees.

Their Skills Bootcamps are a fantastic opportunity for small to medium size businesses that need more talent with digital marketing skills.

The two Skills Bootcamps to sign your team members up for are:

  1. Digital Marketing Strategy Skills Bootcamp, which has start dates from now through to January 2024, and will be running in London, Manchester and nationally.
  2. The newly added Data Strategy, Analytics and Measurement Skills Bootcamp, which has start dates in October through to December, and will be running in London, Leeds and nationally.

So, who’s eligible? To qualify, your company must be based in England, and participants must be aged 19 or above. An individual can only attend one Skills Bootcamp every 12 months.

The individual attending the Skills Bootcamp may already work in marketing and need additional skills, or it may be someone from outside the marketing team who will take on fresh marketing responsibilities.

MOST CONTAGIOUS CALLS FOR JUNIOR TALENT

Cannes Lions’ new sister brand, Contagious, will be running its ‘Most Contagious’ event in December, which will provide speaker slots to up-and-coming talent, giving them a chance to appear alongside some of the industry’s leading lights.

Contagious is looking for fresh thinking in the form of high-energy, 3-minute ‘seminars’. The brief:

  1. You cannot be the head of anything – a department, an agency, a brand. This is an opportunity for the junior folks in the industry – the people who normally do not get a chance to have their voice heard.
  2. Your talk must be on ‘The most influential thing of the year that’s not advertising… and what it means for advertising’.
  3. Your talk must be no longer than 3-3.5 mins.

The deadline for submissions is midnight on October 13, and you can take part by submitting your idea in 150 words or thereabouts to: newvoices@contagious.com and using the hashtag #MoCo2023 in your email subject line.

The reward includes a £100 speaker fee and much more.
