We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

About Ad Net Zero

In November 2020, we launched Ad Net Zero, an industry-wide initiative to help UK advertising respond to the climate crisis caused by CO2 emissions. Ad Net Zero’s mission is for immediate, collective industry action to help achieve real net zero carbon emissions from the development, production and media placement of advertising by the end of 2030.

About the role

The international project manager (IPM) will be a fully dedicated resource to Ad Net Zero, across three broad areas:

  • Managing the international development of the Ad Net Zero programme effectively, ensuring all supporters are properly managed and fully engaged with the international partners, the UK Steering Group and Working Groups. In time, there is also likely to be an international steering group.
  • Encouraging the adoption and implementation of the 5-point Action Plan by the international Ad Net Zero supporters and supporting the country-level teams in each market.
  • Working with the AA senior team on the development and implementation of international agreements, working with international and national trade bodies and overseas companies.
  • Monitoring the wider developments on climate action across our industry and the Government and capitalising on these by integrating, where appropriate, into the Ad Net Zero programme

The manager will be an important cog in Ad Net Zero’s development in 2022 and beyond, working with the Ad Net Zero supporters and the AA team to deliver long-term change in the way our industry works at a global level. They will manage the international relationships, support their growth and development, track and report on the programme’s achievements, manage budgets and support research and marketing activities. The successful candidate will report to the overall Ad Net Zero Project Manager and will also work closely with the wider AA senior team.

Responsibilities

  • To manage the international development of Ad Net Zero, principally:
    • Regular engagement with international partners and potential partners
    • Management of induction process for new partners
    • Ensure effective knowledge transfer from the UK programme to the international partners
    • Manage the consultancy work commissioned from international partners from the AA team (for instance on measuring emissions across the industry)

 Skills and experience

  • The successful candidate will be an excellent account manager, with strong planning and management skills, high quality writing capabilities and can present confidently in meetings on behalf of Ad Net Zero, often to senior-level audiences.
  • The successful candidate will have spent 1-5+ years working within a comparable environment – a trade body, NGO, government, marketing, media or advertising company.
  • They will have knowledge of and interest in the international advertising and marketing industry, ideally in an account management role and can demonstrate a clear, informed understanding of how the advertising eco-system works.
  • They may also have experience of working in a climate action-related area, either through client work or directly on projects, able to evidence a clear, impassioned understanding of advertising’s unique situation within the climate debate as both an opportunity and a threat to meaningful change.
  • They will have a real passion for advertising and how to promote its positive actions on the climate emergency in a high-impact, highly visible way at the biggest industry events worldwide.
  • With the support of the AA leadership team, they will be able to manage an international collective to drive the adoption of the Ad Net Zero programme to drive down the emissions associated with advertising around the world.

Terms of employment

  • Initially a 12-month fixed-term contract role, with a view to a permanent role on longer-term basis.
  • Salary, depending on experience.
