The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

LEADING THE WAY

This week, we have revealed the theme for LEAD 2020 (drum roll, please) – “The New Age of Responsibility”.

As we approach 2020, there is increasing focus on leadership across the political and business spheres. Our industry is under scrutiny, by policy makers, by the public and by the people who work in advertising itself. Collectively, they are placing a greater set of expectations on advertising: how it is delivered, how it represents the world we live in and how it can bring positive change to society. Our industry summit will ask what does responsible leadership really mean for UK advertising’s leaders?

We’re super excited for everything we have planned for LEAD 2020, and don’t forget that for the first time we are offering tickets at a discounted rate for under 30s! Tickets are selling fast, so book yours while you still can. You can find all the details on our website here.

Talkin’ bout a revolution

On Tuesday morning we hosted a special showcase event on our new Advertising Pays 7 (AP7) report ‘UK Advertising’s Digital Revolution’ at Portcullis House in Westminster.

The drop-in event included exhibitors from a number of the companies and organisations that are featured in AP7 including the IAB, the DMA, Loop Me, TV Squared, Newsworks, Adsmart from Sky and Media Smart. As well as guests from industry, there was cross-party attendance from MPs including Kevin Brennan and Christine Jardine, as well as staff members from several MPs’ offices, and officials from Whitehall departments such as DCMS.

Attendees heard how advertising’s digital revolution has transformed the exhibitors’ businesses and the wider UK economy. To read more about the event, click here.

Taking Care of Data

On Wednesday we hosted our Data & e-Privacy working group, chaired by Chris Combemale (DMA).

Officials from DCMS and BEIS updated the group on data flows post-Brexit and the Business Readiness Fund. The group also discussed the latest text of the draft e-Privacy Regulations, metadata, the ICO’s latest guidance on cookies and Action 4 of the Trust Action plan work – ‘Ensuring data privacy matters’.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 23 October.
