The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

SHOWCASING ADVERTISING IN PARLIAMENT

Our annual Parliamentary Reception was held on Monday, June 26, in the House of Commons Terrace Pavilion, with the conversations focusing on how advertising and marketing drives and supports economic growth – both domestically and through a thriving £15bn exports industry. The event was a great opportunity for us to engage senior MPs and Peers on the vital contributions that our sector makes to the economy.

The reception began with a speech by former DCMS Select Committee Chair and event sponsor Damian Collins MP, who spoke about challenges faced by the advertising industry. This was followed by speeches by our CEO, Stephen Woodford, and our International Trade Director, Aisling Conlon, who leads our UK Advertising Exports Group (UKAEG). They spoke about UK and its success at this year’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

The final speech was delivered by Alex Davies-Jones MP, Labour Shadow DCMS Minister, who highlighted how advertising boosts our economy and helps drive change.

The speeches were followed by canapés, drinks and networking along the terrace, overlooking the River Thames.

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us!

A ROARING SUCCESS AT CANNES LIONS

It’s back to reality for team AA after a busy week at Cannes Lions, representing UK advertising at the world-renowned international festival of creativity.

The UK recorded a spectacular 106 wins at Cannes Lions keeping us in the top three most awarded countries.

The UK Advertising Export Group (UKAEG) in collaboration with the Department for Business and Trade, proudly facilitated the participation of over 50 companies eager to expand their business worldwide. UKAEG hosted roundtables featuring key markets like the USA, Japan, UAE, and India, allowing for invaluable exchanges that will pave the way for future collaborations. UKAEG also hosted another global roundtable with Campaign that looked at how the merging of tech and human creativity is driving new avenues for creative expression, tech delivery and commercial success.

At the end of each day, a wrap-up video was produced showing the key highlights from our action-packed days at Cannes Lions. You can check out the full Cannes Lions 2023 wrap-up video here.

HAVAS LYNX PICK UP THREE ROSES

Havas Lynx amassed an impressive three wins at The Drum Roses Awards last night, collecting two golds in the Copywriting and Social Purpose categories and one Silver in the Data/Insight category for their ‘Change the routine’ campaign for our 2023 All In Census.

The All In Census is UK advertising’s only industry-wide survey, created by the Advertising Association, the IPA, ISBA and Kantar. It gathered confidential and anonymous data from over 16,000 advertising and marketing professionals in 2021, and over 18,500 in 2023.

The Roses Awards celebrate the fact that the best work need not come from the UK’s largest city. Many of the UK’s most talented creatives live and work outside its capital city and many of the best ideas are born there too.

Congratulations Havas Lynx from all of us at the AA!
