The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

LATEST ALL IN ACTIONS REVEALED

Yesterday, our inclusion initiative with the IPA and ISBA, All In, announced its next three actions covering Mental Health, LGTBQ+ and Physical Disability. These form part of the UK advertising industry’s action plan to build a workplace where everyone feels they belong.

Let’s take a brief look at our new areas for action…

Action 7 – Support the mental health of our colleagues: the All In Census data found one in five of those with mental health conditions are likely to leave their company due to a lack of inclusion, compared to 12% across the industry.

Action 8 – To improve the experience of our LGTBQ+ talent: in the All In Census, 45% of LGTBQ+ people reported stress/anxiety compared to 31% of the industry average.

Action 9 – To improve the experience of disabled talent in the workplace: Just 2% of those working in advertising have a physical disability compared to 7% of the UK working population.

If you want to find out more about the actions, head here. This news was covered widely across the media in titles such as Marketing WeekCampaignThe Drum & Research Live.

Also, keep your eyes peeled because next week, we’ll be announcing the first wave of All In Champions. If you want to become one, proving your efforts towards implementing the All In Action Plan, submit your application here.

MEDIA SMART ADAPTS ITS RESOURCE FOR SEND STUDENTS

On Tuesday, Media Smart – UK advertising’s award-winning non-profit education programme – announced that its popular film-based educational resource, ‘TikTok: Adverts, Creators and You’ has now been adapted for SEND (special education needs and dissabilities) students.

The video resource features successful TikTok Creators, empowering 13 to 17-year-olds with the tools they need to navigate TikTok’s commercial side. This development is part of Media Smart’s ambitions to adapt all educational materials going forwards, so that they are inclusive for all young people up and down the country.

The SEND resource launched on the same day as Media Smart’s session on influencer marketing for the Media Literacy APPG at Portcullis House. The session featured two panels – one of industry professionals and one of secondary school students – who discussed various perspectives from across the influencer marketing ecosystem. It was chaired by our CEO, Stephen Woodford, and also featured Mr MBA, TikTok creator and secondary school teacher.

You can learn more about the adapted resource here. It was also covered in The Media LeaderLittle Black Book and Mobile Marketing Magazine.

RUNNING, RUNNING AND RUNNING, RUNNING

We took a short break from all these announcements and headed to Battersea Park on Tuesday to run The Marketing Society’s Sprintathon. For this, a total of 105 teams of four from across our industry had to complete a relay of 400m (100m per person) consecutively until they hit 42.2km. That’s the distance of a marathon and we did it in two hours!

All profits go to Stand Up To Cancer UK – a non-profit providing research to help beat cancer – and The Marketing’s Society work to support the rising talent of the future.

We’re so proud to be supporting this fantastic initiative. Read more here and if you want to see us having fun, check out our Instagram reel.

ASA’S INTERMEDIARY & PLATFORM PRINCIPLES PILOT

In March, the ASA announced its plans to launch an Intermediary and Platform Principles pilot. We’re delighted to now see the pilot in action, extending the ASA’s role online and exploring how to bring more accountability and transparency to its regulation of paid online ads.

This has been launched in collaboration with IAB UK and it’s great to see so many of our members volunteering to provide the necessary information to demonstrate how they operate in accordance with the Principles.
