The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

Advertising Matters

Exceptional news!

This week the Government announced it intends to double the number of exceptional talent visas. The announcement follows the Creative Industry Federation’s ‘Global Talent Report’ which called for the visa system to be reformed.

This increase in exceptional talent visas will allow ad-land to continue to bring in creatives from around the world. And as you’ll know from our work in our Advertising Pays report: ‘World Class Talent, World Class Advertising’ we’ve long been celebrating the best and brightest of international talent.

It’s our ability to attract and retain the best global talent that puts UK advertising top of Europe in terms of market size and Cannes Lion awards. We’ve won 1,501 Cannes Lions since 2004 – the most of any European country; and it’s access to talent that helps to make UK advertising world class!

It looks like the powers that be can see that too as we’re reassured of the Home Secretary’s commitment that the UK remains ‘at the heart of world culture.’ And the timing couldn’t be better as we’ll be rolling out the red carpet at our Parliamentary Reception on November 28 to showcase some of the Cannes Lion winners that helped keep UK advertising top of the league tables.

That is the bottom line.

Yesterday saw Thinkbox launch a new Ebiquity/Gain Theory study. The study – ‘Profit Ability: the business case for advertising’ – has shown that advertising can generate profit both in the long and short term and looking at total profit ROI over 3 years, the average campaign delivers a profit ROI of £3.24 per pound spent. That’s a whole lot of bang for your buck!

It’s no surprise to us that the report shows that advertising can boost business and we know that it’s working even harder for SMEs. Did you know that every £1 spent on advertising benefits an SME 8x as much as larger firms? You can find out more on how advertising can unlock UK growth potential over here!

O’er the border

After countless incursions, the Advertising Association finally planted its flag in Scottish soil back in March. And since the birth of our Front Foot Scotland Group the AA team has been to-ing and fro-ing over the border ever since.

This week is no exception as our intrepid communications team have been based in Scotland filming many of the industry’s finest talent. It’s all to showcase the strength of Scotland’s advertising industry following our first event there last month. And you can catch up on that one here.

And finally, we’d like to say a big thank you to our canny friends at Whitespace, STV, Edinburgh College and Media Scotland for being so hospitable.
