The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

UK Young Lions Winners: Print

/ April 10th 2020

Our UK Young Lions competition this year was based around our diversity and inclusion initiative. We want UK advertising to be the creative industries’ most progressive sector in recruiting, retaining and developing the most inclusive workforce. Our Young Lions in this category were asked to create a print advert to help the Advertising Association bring the initiative to life. You can see the full competition brief here.

Samantha Banner and Emma Bromley of ZEAL Creative took the prize for Print with their brilliant ‘The Truth Behind Ads’ campaign which our judges loved for the way it ‘holds the industry to ransom’. View their work here.

Samantha Banner, Copywriter, ZEAL Creative

Creative copywriter based in Manchester. I’m all about ideas and the words that bring them to life.
Birds are my next biggest passion (namely my two budgies, Sonic and Spyro). I’m also a massive quiz show geek with an unusual amount of general knowledge but absolutely no common sense.

Emma Bromley, Copywriter, ZEAL Creative

Happy and a little chatty creative copywriter based in Manchester. I love nothing more than the ‘YASS’ feeling of coming up with a shiny idea that ticks all the boxes.
My passions include: car singing, kitchen dancing and all things Frank (my dog).

What does it mean to you to be representing the UK at Cannes Lions 2021?

We are absolutely thrilled to represent the UK at the Global Young Lions competition in Cannes. There’s so much young creative talent in the UK, so it’s a real honour to have been chosen to compete against the best young talent from around the world.

This year, the runners up for the Print category were Jake Smith and Max Simmance of Havas Lynx. The judges really liked their humorous, eye-catching approach to the brief. View their work here.

Jake Smith, Junior Creative, Havas Lynx

Originally from Cornwall, graduated from Falmouth University with a degree in Advertising. First job as a Junior Creative at Havas Lynx (current). Passionate about creative insights and implementing exciting ideas that look to create a meaningful change to people’s lives.

Max Simmance, Junior Creative, Havas Lynx

Graduated from Falmouth University in 2018 (Creative Advertising). Then joined Havas Lynx as a Junior Creative with a place on their graduate scheme. Quick facts: I ask a lot of questions. I’m a fantastic procrastinator. I use the word ‘sick’ too often for someone working in healthcare advertising. And I can name all the countries in the world…siiick.

How was your experience in taking part in the UK Young Lions Print competition?

We found the brief pretty tricky at first and then had three very different ideas…but on the night of submission, we asked ourselves: ‘ Which one is the most unique and will be the most fun to make?’ And Zombies was the obvious answer. Thankfully, the judges agreed.

Can’t wait for next year. First place, we’re coming for ya…

This year, the judges also highly commended David Ryan Jones and Lewis Dunlop for their Print entry. View their work here.

David Ryan Jones, Copywriter, McCann Manchester

I’m a Creative from the ‘sunny’ seaside town of Southport, but you’ll find me in Manchester. I have seven year’s network agency experience and have created work for things you put on your back, pop in your mouth, and drop in your basket.

Lewis Dunlop, Art Director, McCann Manchester

I’m Lewis, an Art Director working in Manchester for the last 7 years or so. After studying Art at the college, I stumbled my way into creative Advertising and never looked back. I love craft, and think I’ll forever be neurotically tweaking things within an inch of their lives.
