The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

A A A

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

CELEBRATING OUR EARTH

Today communities across the world celebrate the Earth.

Established in 1970, Earth Day is celebrated yearly on April 22. While people will show their support in a range of different ways today, Earth Day includes a variety of events coordinated globally by EarthDay.org. The theme for 2022 is ‘Invest in Our Planet’ and organisers are calling for ‘unstoppable courage to preserve and protect our health, our families, and our livelihoods’.

To mark the occasion, we asked our Ad Net Zero supporters what they are doing in celebration of Earth Day. You can read all about their plans and initiatives here.

In the lead up to Earth Day, on Tuesday, our CEO Stephen Woodford, took the virtual stage alongside Mark Read of WPP at the 4A’s Sustainability Summit. They talked about our industry initiatives Ad Net Zero and AdGreen, and discussed how joining them can help you advance your company’s sustainability objectives. Find out more about the event here.

We are also really happy to have our Ad Net Zero materials featured in ANA Sustainability Collective in honour of Earth Day. The materials will be free to access for the general public today and will remain available for members-only going forward. Head here & check the hub out!

And remember…

You can join our journey to a net zero industry by:

1. Downloading the Ad Net Zero guide – it’s free and full of practical advice for you to implement in your own business.

2. Taking the Ad Net Zero Essentials Training – it’s a short online course and will help you fully understand how people working in our industry can take positive action to change the way they work and the work they make.

3. Encouraging your company to become an Ad Net Zero supporter and join the growing collective effort to see real change across our industry.

Easy!

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

We are super excited to be a media partner at Mediatel’s Future of Brands event next week, April 27-28 at Andaz London Liverpool Street.

As well as being able to offer you a discounted ticket (save £150 with our code AAFOB199) as part of this, you can come along and hear two of our sessions on incredibly important topics – climate change and inclusion.

On Day 1, James Best, Chair of UK advertising think tank Credos, will be chairing the session ‘It’s time to be leaders: Delivering net zero by 2030’. Alongside Sebastian Munden, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Unilever UK&I, and Helen Brain, Head of Sustainability, Mediacom, he will be asking how brands – along with their agency and media partners – are demonstrating real leadership and collaboration on climate action. Find out more about the session here.

On Day 2, our Commercial Director & Inclusion Lead, Sharon Lloyd Barnes, will be joining a panel discussion on ‘Battling barriers and building bridges: The pathway to our inclusive industry’. She will be joined by Jerry Daykin, VP, Head of Media, Beam Suntory and Suman Karki, Marketing Chapter Lead, Direct Line Group and together they will look at the progress made since the All In Census results were released, as well as the barriers faced, the areas of focus moving forward and how brands can help. Find out more here.

We hope to see you there!
