The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around public health, gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital economy and more.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 90 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

UK Young Lions Competition 2024 – The Winners

We are delighted to announce the winners of the UK Young Lions Competition 2024.

We received over 200 entries and the work was of an incredibly high standard. This year the brief was supplied by Kellogg’s, with the objective to evolve the ‘Kellogg’s Kombos’ platform. We would like to thank all the entrants for taking part and our wonderful panel of judges for their valued feedback.

DESIGN WINNERS

 

 

Billy Nhiwatiwa, Designer, Jones Knowles Ritchie

 

 

 

 

Billy is a designer at renowned studio Jones Knowles Ritchie, where he contributes to shaping iconic brands such as M&M’s and Coca-Cola. Graduating from Norwich University of the Arts in 2020 with a D&AD New Blood pencil, his enthusiasm lies in creating idea-centric work.

 

 

Ethan Brown, Designer, Studio Sutherl&

 

 

 

 

Ethan’s love for simple, witty ideas began at Norwich University of the Arts, earning him two D&AD New Blood pencils and a Gold Pentaward. Today he works at Studio Sutherl&, a top UK design agency, working across a range of projects, including branding and identity design, book design, and wayfinding.

What does it mean to be representing the UK in the Global Young Lions Competition?

We’re thrilled to be representing TeamGB at Cannes this year and are excited about competing with so many talented creatives from around the world. It’s an incredible opportunity to showcase our skills on such a prestigious stage, and we’re eager to embrace the challenge ahead!

Anna Belka, Junior Copywriter, VML

 

 

 

 

Anna (1/2 of A&E) is a Junior Copywriter.

Originally from Poland, she moved to the UK to study Creative Ad.

After 3 years of fun at uni and two internships, Anna & Eve got their first permanent role at VML and have been working there for over 18 months.

 

 

Eve Nadin, Junior Art Director, VML

 

 

 

 

Eve (1/2 of Anna & Eve ) is a Junior Art Director working at VML. After pairing up at University and two placements, A&E got scooped up by VML and have been there for over 18 months. Eve would describe herself as an integrated creative, finding fun in all briefs.

What does it mean to be representing the UK in the Global Young Lions Competition?

This means everything to us. We can’t believe that we managed to win Young Lions on our first try. Going to Cannes is a dream that we couldn’t have imagined ticking off our bucket list so soon. We can’t wait to meet so many new people and represent the UK!

Matt Nicholas, Senior Creative, VCCP

 

 

 

 

Matt has been a creative and director for over 10 years – starting out shooting music videos for local bands he has gone on to make work for companies including Sky, VCCP, Samsung, and LADbible. He is also known for known for creating absurd comedy films on TikTok.

 

 

Graham Roberts, Filmmaker, Motion Picture

 

 

 

 

Graham’s a creative with experience in crafting ads, music videos, and films. His creative journey intertwines with a freelancing career, where he has assisted renowned Directors and Producers in the commercial, advertising, and film industries over the last seven years, with credits including Fast X, Star Wars and The Batman.

What does it mean to be representing the UK in the Global Young Lions Competition?

We’re ecstatic to have won the film category for the UK Young Lions. As a newly formed directorial duo the competition has already been an incredible learning experience, and we’re looking forward to throwing ourselves into the global challenge.

MARKETERS WINNERS

 

 

Gemma Albin, Social Influencer Manager, The LEGO Group

 

 

 

 

Gemma watched so much YouTube it became her job! Kicking off her career agency side in social, she specialised in influencer. In 2019 she moved to The LEGO Group, where she leads Global Influencer. In her 5 years there, she’s worked with creators to build everything from dog selfie-booths to entire houses.

 

 

Charlotte Rubesa, Sr Comms Strategist, The LEGO Group

 

 

 

 

Having started her career at 72andSunny in Amsterdam after growing up all around the world, Charlotte landed at The LEGO Group. Here, she helped launch LEGO DREAMZzz – the company’s newest kids entertainment universe. As a comms strategist, she enjoys straddling creative and new media thinking. Her favourite means of communication is the humble WhatsApp sticker.

What does it mean to be representing the UK in the Global Young Lions Competition?

We are SO excited to be representing the UK for Marketing – a bit funny seeing as we submitted our brief while Charlotte was on holiday in India and Gemma was on a shoot in Denmark! We’re excited to meet the other teams and soak in the creativity of the festival!

Ewan Killeen, Strategist, Initiative

 

 

 

 

Planner recently turned Strategist, Ewan works at Initiative across Nike & LEGO. First having entered three years ago, he caught the Young Lions bug and, partnering with the amazing G, managed to secure the win just before his 30th Birthday!

 

 

Georgia Styles, Associate Director, Comms Design, Initiative

 

 

 

 

Obsessed with food and travel, Georgia combines both as a Communications Designer on Deliveroo and GetYourGuide. Having moved to the UK from NZ in 2022, she credits the win to partnering with a CYL legend in one of 2023’s Runner Ups, as well as a dose of Kiwi underdog mentality!

What does it mean to be representing the UK in the Global Young Lions Competition?

Winning the UK Young Lions feels unreal. The talent entering this competition set the bar for creativity, and we’re honoured to represent the UK on the global stage. This is made even more exciting by securing the hattrick for Initiative, with this being the third consecutive win for the agency.

Hailing from the land of hobbits and sheep, Darryl also worked at DDB New Zealand before making his way to London to work as an Art Director at Krow.

He’s been lucky enough to turn pictures into ads for some global brands, while enjoying trips around the globe!

Originally from Scotland, Kirsty worked at DDB New Zealand before moving to London. She is currently a copywriter at Krow.

After a weekend of concepting, eating Coco Pops, choosing an idea, mocking up an idea, doubting ourselves, reconcepting, eating more Coco Pops and going back to the original idea, we are thrilled to be joining a talented bunch of people in Cannes. Can’t wait.
